Life Goes On

How it is already February, I have no idea.  Not only does time seem to not slow down, I actually think it is speeding up.  Here's a little recap of what I can remember has happened since I last posted. :)

September - Colton was inducted to NJHS.  That kid amazes me.  He keeps up with Student Council, NJHS (which is 10 service hours every 9 weeks), club basketball and his lowest grade in school is a 93.  He is so much like me, burning the candle at all ends, and while I am proud of all his accomplishments, I hope he never feels the pressure to do all and be all like I have at times.  He is extremely hard on himself and such a high achiever, I just pray he learns to extend himself grace when needed.
James and I did go on our getaway to Laguna Beach and it was wonderful.  The ocean current is definitely stronger there I found as we were walking along the beach and a wave came crashing out of nowhere and soaked us from the waist down!  It was very nice and needed to not be on a schedule for 3 days and just spend some time together.  I feel fortunate every day that I am not just married, but enjoy spending time with my husband.

October - Can you say float? Not root beer float...Student Council homecoming parade float. :)  While in a meeting, the advisor asked if anyone had a handy dad that could help with making this year's float.  Let me be honest for a minute...my husband is not just handy.  The man is incredible.  He has put a fountain in my mom's back yard with no previous knowledge of how, fabricated bumpers for trucks and jeeps, remodeled a house, and I could keep going.  Of course he's handy and of course Colton raised his hand and so it began.  James wasn't going to settle for any run of the mill float.  The kids decided on the theme "Coyote Hills Student Council Lights Up Your World" so James had the idea to make a float with light shining from it.  Sounds easy, right?  Let's just say that by the end, we had LED lights from the fire truck on the outside and huge flood lights running off the Jeep battery inside with an on/off switch wired in.  It was crazy and awesome all at the same time.

November - Colton tried out and made the school basketball team!  I was so proud of him and considering only five 7th graders made it and only 15 of the 40+ that tried out made it.  I knew it was going to add to our already busy schedule, but wowza, it was even more than I thought.  He practiced 8 hours a week + 1 game a week.  He loves every minute of it though so it's all worth it.

December - This month is always crazier and this year seemed even more so with 2 school basketball tournaments and the fact that Thanksgiving was late so the window to Christmas was short.  We did the usual, Christmas light scavenger hunt, Castles N Coaster with the Local 493, etc, but this year instead of just sorting the gift for the firefighter charities, we actually delivered them to the homes...in the fire truck!  It was incredibly rewarding and good for the boys to see.  Family get togethers rounded out the month with a family picture that everyone complained about taking, took 20+ tries to get a decent one and then once it was done, everyone asked me to email them a copy.  It's the little things that make every day special.

January - Dawson started basketball with the city league which adds just a little more chaos to our already hectic days, but is loving it.  His coach cannot believe how good his shot is for a 9 year old.  He also did terrific and got a 89% on his AzAC test.  There are a lot of things that have been an uphill road for him and he has things he will always have to work on in his life, so I am so thankful for teachers that are able to teach in a variety of ways and are willing to let him learn in his own way so that he is successful.

February - Only 2 days in, but yesterday was exciting.  Both boys had basketball games.  Dawson got the tip off and went straight in for a basket.  Colton got in the game twice and both time shot and made a 3 point basket.  What a fun day!  Today we are in full swing preparing for the school speech contest that Colton is in on Friday.  I continue to be amazed and proud of who my kids are becoming every day.

Life is hectic.  The schedule we keep is crazy at best.  Down time is rarely found.  But in the chaos of it all, is my family.  My family who is each others best friends.  Who would always choose to spend time together than apart.  Who I thank God for every day.
