Colton was one of fourteen 6th graders picked to be in the school speech contest. Before Christmas they had to write a patriotic essay using a quote or song and then turned it into a speech. He used the quote by JFK, "Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country." His supports were Pat Tillman, Medgar Evers and Christa McAuliffe. He worked so hard, practicing on tons of people and Uncle Ken even came over to give him some tips. He didn't place in the top 5, but did get the award for the Most Notable Delivery. He did a great job being expressive and really involving the audience. I was incredibly proud, not just of how he did, but of the courage it took to even get that far.

Proud Mom
I am a super proud mom lately. Both of my boys are doing really well which always makes a mom's heart happy.

I am also very proud of Dawson. Unlike Colton who really enjoys school and has an inner drive to get good grades, Dawson is slightly more laid back and doesn't always put in the most effort. He is super smart, but thinks outside the box and doesn't get the point of reading a story three times if it's not good the first time. However, Dawson loves candy and cheesesticks and is easily persuaded to work hard for a little reward. So easily that he just earned his fourth 100% in a row on his spelling test today. This is a big deal considering on Monday, he usually scores 8-10 out of 20 correct. It takes a lot of work during the week, but luckily enough for me, he loves cheesesticks and Vanilla Dr. Pepper from Sonic happy hour, so it is all working out!
